For ten years, volunteers of the Danilovtsi Movement have been helping in hospitals, shelters, colonies and boarding schools for disabled children. And now all this experience is collected under one cover. The movement has published a real “textbook on volunteerism” - a two-volume book “Standard of Social Volunteering”.

If you don’t just want to be one of the volunteers “as long as it works out,” but strive higher and further, are looking for a greater effect from your work and want to help people for a long time - this book is an absolute must have, - this is what Vladimir, President of the Tradition Foundation, said about the collection Berkhin.

The book will be of interest to everyone who wants to become or is already a volunteer, organizers of volunteer groups, as well as those who were once disillusioned with volunteering, says Yuri Belanovsky, head of the Danilovtsy Children’s House. – Based on our experience, we provide answers to the most important questions: how to find volunteers? how to motivate them correctly? What is emotional burnout and how to resist it?..

The volunteers decided to summarize their entire experience of working with special people in a book - so that as many people as possible would not only want to, but also know how to help correctly Photo from the archives of the Danilovtsi Children's House

The first volume talks about the theory of volunteering and contains practical advice: how to attract volunteers and arrange interviews, how to train people and what to take to hospitals to see children with cancer. The book contains cases and various kinds of reference material in the form of rules, memos, contracts and instructions that will help from scratch organize volunteer assistance to people in need in hospitals, orphanages, psychoneurological boarding schools, nursing homes, hospices, prisons, shelters, etc.

The second volume is a description of the real experience of recognized masters of the volunteer movement: the Danilovtsi Children's House, the Gift of Life Foundation, Volunteers to Help Orphans and Old Age in Joy, the Vera Hospice Assistance Fund, the Volunteer Club and the Charity the “I Believe in Miracles” center, the “Noon” and “Big Brothers Big Sisters” programs for the socialization of children, the “Mercy” Orthodox volunteer service and other authoritative organizations.

It is valuable that the book contains experience of working with volunteers in completely different organizations,” says Kira Smirnova, executive director of the “All Together” Charitable Assembly. “These cases will be invaluable for NGOs developing work with volunteers and wishing to rely on the experience of the best. It is very useful that instructions and rules, questionnaire forms, forms of necessary consents and contracts, a volunteer code are attached - these are ready-made methods for work that can be adapted in your organization. As far as I know, there are no similar works in Russia.

From this book, volunteers will understand that volunteering is not just a story for one day, says Ekaterina Chetoshnikova, President of the Altai Center for the Development of Volunteering, member of the Federal Expert Council on Volunteering. - This is responsibility and costs, this is the need to take into account the opinions of others and members of your team, these are sometimes unexpected and sad facets of our lives. But this is also the joy of communication, from the feeling of being needed and useful, from a nearby shoulder, from the result made by your hands. And the book will protect leaders of volunteer groups from unnecessary risks, help them better organize teamwork and properly prevent emotional burnout among group members and team members.

The presentation of the book “Standard of Social Volunteering” in the form of a six-hour marathon-conference will take place on October 31 at the “Boiling Point” (Moscow, Maly Konyushkovsky Lane, 2). Almost all major NGOs working with volunteers will take part in it. There will be a video broadcast throughout the marathon.
